News Sheet November 2022

ACT Planning Bill

There has been considerable information in the media etc. on the ACT Planning Bill which will have multiple and major impacts on Canberra, which was, of course, an exceptionally well-planned city.

One can only hope that our own national capital, which is in many respects the greatest triumph of the conjunction of Vision, Plan and Will, and it is … the longest surviving planned city of the modern era that has kept its plan and its character, though nearly a hundred years old’ (Aitkin, D. 2012, ‘The Problem of Planned Cities: Canberra in Context’, www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Senate/Powers_practice_n_procedures/pops/pop57/c01) will continue in that vein!

You can help this process by your comments initially by making a submission to the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Transport and City Services by Wednesday 16 November.
