This house is:
- a ‘designated dwelling’ within the Heritage listed Reid Housing Precinct, see ACT Heritage Register, Entry 20023
- a house designed by Ken Oliphant. His bio can be read in the Australian Dictionary of Biography.
Further information can be found about Reid’s designated dwellings in the Reid Housing Precinct Entry as mentioned above. There are requirements MANDATED under the heading ‘Demolition’ that apply to this house and other designated dwelling in this heritage-listed part of Reid.
It is good to see today that the misleading/false advertising word ‘knockdown’ has now been removed from the original blurb advertising this property. This is not a Mr Fluffy house so ‘knockdown’ doesn’t apply. If it did then it would, unfortunately, come under very different regulations in this heritage precinct.
The word ‘rebuild’ remains and again we see the possibility of a ‘veneerial’ being constructed on the block. A McMansion behind the original frontage perhaps?
Let’s hope that the purchaser is keen to do something creative and would also pay homage to Oliphant’s work, the first private architect in Canberra.
